Subject: [ferrethealth] GinGin lymphoma update--Vincristine
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

After 2 days of Cytosar last week, GinGin's lymph nodes continued to grow. Her appetite has been fine, and since starting her on probiotic "Pet Dophilus" her poops have been great.

Reviewing the radiologist's ultrasound report, I noticed she is having gall bladder issues. In the veterinary ICU I have seen some really terrible things occur with acute gallbladder disease so I alerted GinGin's oncologist to my concern. (Sometimes veterinary specialists have tunnel vision and they see only the problem *they* are dealing with. It doesn't hurt to give them a little nudge).

While he is looking into ursodiol, I started GinGin on sam-e and increased the liver supplement I give in her food. For those who have expressed concern with giving Denosyl tablets (and I also have had issues with it) I am happy to share that Denamarin (sam-e + milk thistle ) is now available as a chewable tablet. Meaning that the issue of not crushing the enteric coated tablet is no longer an issue. Until the chewables arrive, I've been pre-soaking the denosyl tablets and pilling GinGin (washing it down with Ferretone). The sam-e seems to have really livened up her mood!

But, since the Cytosar did nothing for her lymphoma, I decided we needed to get more aggressive. None of the chemo meds so far in the Tufts Protocol have had any effect as far as slowing the progress of the disease. I didn't want to let another week or two go by with more of the same, until she became so weak that more aggressive therapy would totally wipe her out.

So, talking with the oncologist, we decided to jump ship on the Tufts Protocol and try Dr. Antinoff's. GinGin's WBC today=2700 so we gave her first dose of vincristine.

Will let you all know how this works out....

SKyla and GinGin
