Ferrets with insulinoma can have blood glucose levels that low and
still be functional. I'd bet that was an accurate reading. You can
have Otter retested, of course.
I had a two year old named Ker Avon develop insulinoma despite a good
diet as well. Prednisolone couldn't bring up his blood glucose
significantly either. We ended up opting for surgery. He was one of
the rare, lucky ferrets who actually had the surgery be curative.
Whether you opt for surgery or medical management of the disease, I
think you should plan on testing Otter's blood glucose regularly at
home. Your vet can show you how. I would also plan on moving ahead
with some form of treatment.
All the best to you and to Otter,
