Prednisolone to stabilize his blood glucose is where I would expect
your vet to start. Our current vet recommended a Freestyle Lite
glucometer, which is the same one humans use. It's inexpensive, but
the test strips are anything but. I think I paid something like $16
for the glucometer. 50 test strips at Wal Mart run $61 plus tax. The
readings are just a bit lower than what we see at the vet's office.
