Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Glucose check
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My 5 year old went off her duck soup a few weeks ago and on a whim, I
checked her glucose at home using the Freestyle Lite - it was 49 fasting 4-6
hours. We were going to vet to have lymph node biopsy and pre-anesthetic
blood profile showed her glucose at 34. He gave her Dex IV during the short
surgery. We were holding off on *prednisolone due to waiting on lymphoma
diagnosis and wanting to start aggressive chemo protocol. I've been feeding
her round the clock mix with a/d, turkey baby food and 1/2 duck soup with a
bit of baby sweet potatoes. In between meals she gets a dash of ensure,
ferretvite, or ferretlax or Rebound (all have corn syrup in them). I have
yet to test her BG and it be above 60. But I can tell she is feeling much
better as she was hopping around playing a little tonight and chasing the
treat ball around which she hasn't done in months. Today we got the biopsy
results clear of lymphoma. When we get our stitches out next week I am
asking for Proglycem (regardless of cost) lowest dose to start and gently
bring her sugar up and under control - and we'll avoid any steriod problems
to interfere with her partial pancreatomy when she is stabilized. Another
plus that if she does develop lymphoma in the future it won't be pred
resistant.
