Jeff,  I really hate to mention this, but consider that he may be dealing with intestinal lymphoma.  If you read in the archives about my Gus... he went thru something similar.  We tried everything (before doing intestinal biopsies).  He was on a couple of different antibiotics, same thing, at first they appeared to help, but then after stopping the antibiotic the diarrhea returned.

I was so hesitant to put Gus thru an abdominal surgery just to get biopsies, but my vet did an ultrasound first (plus we had tried everything else non-surgical to no avail), and the US gave him some real strong indications that we were dealing with intestinal lymphoma (which led to the biopsy surgery).

I don't know how far you want to go to get a diagnosis, but like you said, a culture is going to take a few days... my fear is will he be able to hang in there for those next several days?  You may want to talk to your vet about an ultrasound, even Pred... but in guessing you don't know whether you are dealing with lymphoma or IBD or something else...  It depends on how serious his condition is.  You may want to ask about Kaolin-Pectin - it will be a temporary fix (its a script, your vet has to call it in).

I hope you're not dealing with lymphoma, but I just wanted you to be aware of and not be fooled with the antibiotics appearing to work.
Andrea
