Subject: [ferrethealth] Blood coming from penis
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Stewie started gushing frank blood from his penis tonight as I was bathing his hind end. He weighs a little over 4 lbs now, has severe hind-end weakness but is not totally without use of hind legs, never makes it to the box. I give him a rinse every time he defacates, and tonight with that, he had 3 'bursts' of blood, probably mixed with urine. If he was urinating too, it was not the usual stream he normally produces, just short gushes.

He saw his (exotic) vet last Friday and is being treated for coccidia with Albon; no other meds at this time. I don't know his age, maybe 5 or 6; he was a rescue from Cal. He came with a cagemate and no info on either one.

I didn't find anything in the archives that touched on this, and I realize it is serious so he will be going back to the clinic tomorrow, but maybe someone can give me a heads-up in addition to whatever tests will be done. Sometimes they don't give answers.

[Are you certain the blood wasn't from his anus? Frank blood like you describe from his penis would be very unusual. At his age, he probably requires standard tests, i.e., blood work, fecal check, urinalysis, etc. I would ask questions rather than wait for a vet to volunteer information. - Moderator (TD)]
