Subject: [ferrethealth] help?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

i take in abused animals. we have many range fires this summer. we recieved a beaten, cut and burned ferret. his owners let him loose because they didnt want him. they told some people. charges are being started. frank is doing better, eatting very little and drinking little water. he does like ginger ale. i could use some help for this? i would like to hear all ideas. thank you doc

[If you've not taken him to the vet, he really should be seen a vet. He is very likely dehydrated and that will diminish his appetite. Are you set up to do sub-q hydration? He could also develop infections in his burns. He may need to be put on oral antibiotics. Ginger ale is not great for ferrets of course. However, it would be replenishing his electrolytes. He may also have internal injuries. I would get him in to a veterinarian as soon as possible because he may require more intervention than you are able to provide him at home, i.e., IV, etc. - Moderator (TD)]
