Subject: [ferrethealth] 9 mth old female sick again
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello,

This is my first time posting on this list. I have a 9 month old female ferret, Gladiola, who was treated at the emergency hospital Aug. 4th for bright green loose stools, lack of appetite, and lethargy. They treated her with sub Q fluids, amoxicillin 14 days, carafate, and famotide. They ruled out obstruction via x-ray and ultrasound and found a very enlarged lymph node (not sure the location). They wanted to biopsy the node and I declined. My understanding is that young ferrets do not respond to lymphopma treatment. She is fearful of strangers and strange environments (shakes) and I don't want to put her through that just to lengthen her life a little. They charged me $1,300 for the first episode.

It was my hope that we were dealing with ECE and she would recover. I took her home, administerd sub Q fluilds, continued her meds and she returned to normal in 4 days.

The vet also had me treat her for worms with 2 doses of Drontal spread over 10 days. I forgot the second dose and didn't give it until day 12 (4 days ago).

Today, 18 days since her recovery, she is not feeling or looking well, and has loose, mucosy stools. She feels warm to the touch.

Her mate, Amos, has been healthy as a horse.

I would appreciate any insights anyone may have to share. I understand that I should have her to the vet asap.

Thank you,
KG
