Hind end weakness is a very general symptom which can happen with ferrets from a large range of causes. The cause may simply be hidden for now which is terribly frustrating but can happen. We had one with lymphoma who apparently had it hidden in the marrow and we knew for 9 months that something was seriously wrong but the actual cause could not be found till his final day.
Was an ADV test done? That is probably a longshot but it can be useful to know.
Was bloodwork just the CBC or also the Chem Panel?
Has a two cavity (thorax and abdomen) x-ray been considered?
There are a range of possible spinal problems, including lymphoma which does not always show up in imaging. We have had two with it there in our three decades with ferrets.
You mention outside; are there toxins or dangerous plants where he walks? Ditto those questions and indoor toxin exposures at your daughter's home? Is he up to date on his shots?
Give the suppression has the vet consider trying a low dose of a serious pain killer? If his activity is suppressed by something causing pain he may slow down at first with the med but then perk right up due to it being controlled.
Spleens when very large do cause problems just due to their size and rupture is sometimes possible. They increase in size with infection, and that can sometimes be somewhat controlled, but malignancies can also cause a spleen to enlarge.
Again: Hind end weakness is a very general symptom which can happen with ferrets from a large range of causes. The cause might be hidden for now.
