Thanks Tressie and all who have responded,

She was given Drontal because the vet thought she may be seeing worms in her stools.  I think she wanted to cover all bases given they really didn't have a diagnosis.

I am treating her as I was instructed by the vet during the first episode (in which she recovered in 4 days) while looking for a ferret expert.  One comes highly recommended on this list who is not available till Wed.  Feeding Carnivore Care and hydrating with sub Q fluids.  She is sleeping with her mate which is a good sign, and still up for playing with toys.

thanks,
kg

Why was she given Drontal? It is used to treat worms that ferrets do not generally get. It is known to have severe adverse effects in cats.

It is possible that some of what you are now seeing is an adverse effect of this wormicide.

She may very well have had ECE to begin with. Have a look inside her mouth, ferrets with ECE can develop mouth and throat ulcers.

Do you have access to a ferret expert/knowledgeable veterinarian?

In the interim until you can get her in for either an expert opinion, or a second opinion, treat the clinical symptoms as best as you can. Continue keeping her hydrated and ensuring she is eating, as you have been.

Tressie
