No abstract given for this one though I must admit that the subject is one that interests me, partly because too many who write on it are physicians and techs who don't even know that there are effective rabies vaccines for ferrets, and that even though ferrets can get rabies and have the potential to transmit there has not been a confirmed case to date of a ferret transmitting rabies because they tend to die before intact virus can come downstream from the brain. When that happens I like to send them these:

http://www.nasphv.org/Documents/StatePublicHealthVeterinariansByState.pdf
(so that they can ask actual experts)
http://www.cdc.gov/rabies/
http://www.cdc.gov/rabies/resources/publications/index.html
(and they can email the rabies experts at the CDC, too, so that they can ask other actual experts which I tend to encourage)
I do NOT know what it said in the article below but since it is for a veterinary publication rather than a human health or laboratory publication it is far more likely to be accurate on the rabies issue, if past experience holds true.
