Partial removal of the pancreas, along with any visual nodules on the pancreas, was determined to be the most effective method of approaching insulinoma in a study done by Dr. Bruce Williams and others. In other words, this approach provided a longer average survival time than either medical therapy with no surgery, or than just removing visual nodules and not part of the pancreas. I don't have that abstract handy, but it may either be on Dr. Williams' site, or else in the FHL archives. I believe that the part of the pancreas that is usually removed would be the part that is determined to have the most concentration of the islet tumors, and I also think that it's usually 1/3 to 1/2 of the pancreas, BUT please check sources before relying on that info.
