Dermatophytosis is ringworm (also called tinea). Ringworm is actually a group of closely related type of fungus, NOT a worm. The misnomer began because the shapes of the problem sometimes look worm-like.

Many mammals can get dermatophytosis, including some pets and people, and can spread it around to others, so you might need to treat everyone to be clean of it; your vet will know best on that score. The vet's pathologist will be able to say how many types of individuals in your home can get this type.

As is always the case NEVER end treatment prematurely unless a treating vet says there is a medical reason to do so. Stopping medicines too early can create "super-bugs". It is one of the worst mistakes you can make.

If the ferrets were exposed to people or other animals with ringworm or even infected soil those are ways to get it.

This lists some of the types people can share with animals within the charts:

Here is more on this topic:

If you go to the separate FHL Archives and put the word

ringworm

in the box that says

Search Message Body For:

while leaving the other two boxes empty and then click the button that says

Summit my search

you will get 137 past posts and can decide which to read because ringworm is not unusual in ferrets, nor in a number of other pets such as cats and dogs, nor is is unusual in people.
