Subject: [ferrethealth] Zephyr update (8-8.5 y/o with A/V node heart block, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure)
To: ferrethealth <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Hi, everyone,

Zephyr seems to be holding her own. There have been no more syncope
episodes and she's shown no signs of either problems breathing or of
dehydration. She's been moderately active,
alert, takes treats, eats well, eliminates normally and so on. There
are no obvious signs of discomfort. I'll have to watch her tail
tonight after reading the recent posts on tail curve :)

Zephyr also started taking medication in her gravy again which has
made things much, much easier both for her and for me. She loves Bob
Church's Chicken Gravy but meds put the taste off for her for some
little while. Now she doesn't seem to mind which means no scruffing,
no syringes other than for measurement and far less stress on her
heart from fighting the meds. The last few syncope episodes were all
after being forced to take her meds.

Zephyr's heart rate continues to be consistently over 100 when she has
both the aminophylline and metapreteranol in her system and 60-72 when
the aminophylline wears off. The metopreteranol was the one
experimental choice of medications that actually worked very well for
her. She also continues to receive enalapril and furosemide. If
someone wants me to list the dosages and concentrations again I can do
that but they are all in the previous message about Zephyr.

So long as Zephyr is stable and seems to have a good quality of life
we are probably going to stay the course with her treatment. Hats off
to our vet who has done a fantastic job.

All the best,
Caity and the dynamic duo
Zephyr and Chin Soon
