Have an ultrasound of the heart done if cardiomyopathy is suspected. That is incredibly useful for accuracy. If A/V Node Block is possible then have an EKG/ECG done.
Certainly, ferrets can aspirate food and too many get pneumonia as a result. Usually, a problem like megaesophagus, or an approach like rushed forced feeding/ syringe feeding is involved, but that is not to say that it might not happen otherwise.
In your shoes we'd have more testing done.
