The definitive diagnostic for mycoplasmosis is bronchialveolar lavage. If the ferret has had a round of antibiotics the results may come back as negative according to communication I had from a well known pathologist who does the PCR analysis for mycoplasmosis.

Symptoms come and go, when there is an active episode it is more likely to test positive for mycoplasmosis. As in many of these types of illnesses it may require more than one test to confirm the diagnosis.
