We had a coughing ferret. He was coughing from the day we got him at the age of 2 months. Treatment: antibiotics and Benedril (? spelling) but not a cure. When he was three years old we moved to another house in another suburb. His cough literally stopped overnight. I'm serious - a 'change of air' can work wonders. As children, and that is a long time ago in my case, when we had coughs or other minor but persistent health problems, a change of air, that meant staying with a relative preferably in the country side, was the answer.
That's my two bobs worth but it might help some of the persistent coughers.
