G'day,
Ferrets should be 3 months old when they receive their DES implant for the purpose of chemical castration. With jills timing is important to avoid pseudo-pregnancies. Thus the best time to implant girls is when they are in deep anaestrus, by late autumn - early winter. My guys get the implant in March/April (southern hemisphere) at about the age of 4 - 5 months. This was the advices I received from Dr Schomaker himself. Hobs may be implanted anytime - usually when you can't stand their odour anymore!!!
I hope this helps.

The Shoemaker paper clearly states:
"Twenty-one male ferrets [age 1-2 years-old], equally divided into
three groups, were either surgically castrated, received a slow release
deslorelin implant or received a placebo implant."
