Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: How young for DES implant
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

One more question brought up by a friend on the discussion of Des Implants and castration. Has there been a study done to see what (or if ) the rate of testicular cancer is in male ferrets with Des implants and how long have Des implants been used to know their safety in this area of use? Thanks for any information on this.

[Dr. Schoemaker has been studying the effects of Deslorelin in ferrets for at least ten years if not more. To date there have not been any studies published to date, linking the use of Deslorelin to testicular cancer in male ferrets. Logic suggests that since the levels of androgens would be reduced with the implant, the risk of developing testicular cancer would also be reduced. - Moderator (TD)].
