Subject: [ferrethealth] Difficult to treat insulinoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Another cause of "difficult to treat insulinoma" could be a ruptured pyloris, aka ulcers. My Fraidy Ferret presented with what I thought was insulinoma, classic signs, but was not responding to treatment. She started wasting and I finally put her down and did a necropsy. Her pyloris had ruptured and the omentum had tried to patch it to no avail; there was food in her abdominal cavity. She never once had a melenotic stool or acted as if she were in pain. A very painful thing to discover and has made me more vigilant and quicker to request other diagnostics if a treatment does not appear to be working.
