Subject: [ferrethealth] epithelial neoplasia
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Anyone have some understanding of this result. My Vet had surgery herself & will be off work awhile & when she gets back I'll have to decide what to do.
I had an ultrasound done for my ferret to see if he has adrenal disease & where it is located etc.,or something else. He has a large tumor that was aspirated to see if it was some form of cancer or not. Now I'm unclear if it is or not.
Cytology of mass aspirate: epithelial cells with one or more purple nucleoli and blue
cytoplasm with small intracytoplasmic vacuoles, many arranged in acini, were seen.
Diagnosis: epithelial neoplasia, most likely adrenal neoplasia (carcinoma is most likely), given the
location of the mass cranial to the right kidney.
Treatment: none given; surgery and/or possibly hormonal treatment may be possible.
[It means he has adrenal disease, and looks like the pathologist is leaning towards adrenal carcinoma(cancer). He should definitely receive treatment for adrenal disease with expectation that if it is carcinoma it will be more challenging to treat. Still he needs either a Deslorelin implant or Lupron Depot. Is there another vet taking over her practice - or someone else you can take him to until she is back at work? Moderator (TD)].
