Hey Tressie...It`s Jewels...thanks so much for the info on this! Little Meeko now needs the groups help...and I can`t stress enough to all the with our little guys you need a ferret savy vet! Meeko is a rescue, guesstamate age is 7.He has insolinoma, on 2 mls a day.I knew he was on crap food and tried to switch him...no luck.He had been grinding his teeth which I know is a sign of pain.I then groud up his food and mied it with water in another attempt to do the food switch, but also to rule uot dental problems.Well...the teeth grinding all but stopped...but then, within 5 days Meeko gained alot of weight (he has always been smaller) around the tummy...and then developed what looked to me as fat pads around the neck.I felt terrible...I thought I must have fed him too much.He also became very gassey which never happened before. The vet assured me that ferrets will not over eat and that it is just dumb luck that whatever is going on with Meeko medically happened now. When she checked him over she said he is showing signs of pain when checking his intestines...that they seemed thickened. She also tried to see if she could get any fluid out of the stomach area...no sucess there. She then told me that thats not to say that there wasn`t any...just not enough for her to express. Now here`s the kicker...which I hope you are all sitting down for...she told me she is not an experienced vet enough to know what is going on...but her guesstamate is lymphoma ...she can do x-rays ultra sound,to see if there is a mass, but that might not be enough. If there needs to an exploritory Meeko is up there in years, the surgery will stress him, plus this type cf cancer moves quickly chemo is an option so is the removal of any masses if it hasn`t spead too far.I need your help guys!!! I* have a new vet that is 5 hours away but can`t get there until wenesday...if that I have spinal injuries but come hell or high water I`m getting Meeko there.PleaSE GIVE ME ANY INFO THAT YOU CAN TO MAKE THE RIGHT DESCISION FOR MEEKO.I have to get him to this new vet ...he specializes in ferrets.I don`t trust the vet i TOOK HIM TO.It could be something big...or it could be something that can be managed or helped I just want to do the best thing for Meeko.I don`t want him to be in pain.I want him to have a quality of life .I would love to keep him with us forever.I don`t want him to suffer. Please keep little Meeko in your prayers.Lets send this request up to the top as I say.To the One who created Meeko and Who loves him.God is the best vet...and the best help in times of trouble when we don`t know what to do or how to help.Sorry if I`m rambling...just really upset right now,and hardly any sleep.Thank you all for all your help in advance.Love you all, Jewels
