I have contacted a Small Exotic Mammals Diplomate vet, who is highly experienced with ferrets and she has offered to consult with the poster's vet on this case. She suspects it likely is an inner ear infection which has affected the central nervous system, and has made some recommendations, which I have sent to the original poster.
I have not heard back whether Amanda's taken up the offer of a consult or whether they have pursued any of the recommendations.
