I am not a vet, but I am an audiologist and have some knowledge in this area. The thick syrupy drainage would be cerumen (ear wax) that is always found around the bend in the ear canal. When I was researching this, I found that the literature and the necropsies always revealed ear wax in the canals.

The yellowish fluid, if very thin, may have been cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that had some ear wax tinting it. It may also have been just more ear wax. Either way, you have a problem with the fluid. If it is from the middle ear (behind the ear drum/tympanic membrane) it is indicative of a middle ear disease that can cause off-balance. If it is from the bulla deterioration, it may also cause a meningitis or encephalitis that is basically an infection in/around the brain.

I had a little guy with this. It can also cause off-balance/dizziness and it is not fun. In fact, I know about these things and didn't realize immediately that the fluid I was getting was CSF.

In reading the posts I see that Tressie has someone to help you. That is good. But, check this out with the vet - it may be that you have a problem that is not ferret specific.

Pretty much what Sukie says here is right on target. Please let us know what the outcome is for your little girl. Best to you.

Renee
