Coccidia, colitis, and a tumor are among the possibilities. Of those coccidia is the most common but the vet MUST test several stool samples and MUST look for BOTH genera Isospora AND Eimeria which are very different sizes.

(Antech has made the mistake several times of not looking for both genera so your vet should specify that both genera are to be sought if the specimen is sent.)

See the links in:

etc

Albon is affordable but you WILL need to treat all individuals who may have it and some species need longer treatment than others.

so in

http://ferrethealth.org/archive/

do a search for messages containing

Isospora or Eimeria

in the message body as your way to begin learning about coccidia. Then you can seek other causes there, too.

Sporadic loss of frank (red) blood is common with some of the nastier forms of coccidia, though an injury which is reopening, a polyp, a rectal fissure, and some other things can also do that.

I just noticed that Yahoogroups moved the list links and the links to be next to the homepage photo and introduction, including the one to the Archives, are more easily spotted now than when they were buried at the bottom of that page. There is also a prominent archives link below the introduction. As usual, links to useful features like the links section (resources!) and the files section (vets list link, compounding pharmacies list link, rules, and lots more), etc. remain on the viewer's left
