Subject: Expressing Scent Glands Re: [ferrethealth] Digest Number 1678

My ferret Suki had impacted glands which gradually worsened until they needed expressing every 10 days, there was never any infection,but in the end removal was the only answer.
They were so bad that a teaspoon sized amount could be expressed (explosively) every ten days, they were also obviously painfull.
My vet, a very skillful surgeon, removed them and they results were almost invisible after a week.
None of my ferrets has ever poofed to my knowledge in 12 years.
