I have one boy who is 5 now and had them all his life. The vet diagnosed them as simple keratoses and of all the things I tried on them it seems lanolin daily helped them the most but they have always been there and don't look like they are going to go away. He has them on both rear feet one foot more so than the other but they are nothing to worry about. I am thinking just like people who's feet develop a thick callus from extra pressure on certain points, so do ferrets.
