Subject: [ferrethealth] Need 2nd opinion on expired Deslorelin Implant
To: "ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

With something that is packaged as "sterile"  the expiration date has  as much to do with that as with the drug itself.

When an item is sterilized and sealed up,  it is considered technically sterile for one year--depending on how it is packaged and stored.

Activity of the drug itself would be a chemistry question, but I think if your vet thinks its ok it probably is--they tend to err on the side of caution...

My 5 yr.old Cocoa has gotten 2 Deslorelin Implants in the last 18 months. She was only starting to show just a little bit of thinning hair when I got her the first one. Anyways it almost 9 months later and time for another one. The vet says it is ok for her to get an implant that expired in Aug of this year.
