Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: new member with a health issue (ibd/gi issues)
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

i do monitor his food/water intake very closely. more so even on "bad" days and supplement his mash feedings or fluids as necessary. i know the lack of food makes his problematic gi tract worse because i have the same condition myself. and i usually keep the mash between soup and applesauce consistency for them as that's how they prefer it anyway.

and i kind of figured it was something like his age is preventing him from fighting and he must've been worse than we thought for a long time (which makes me feel bad for the poor guy) but that's why i wanted to figure out his best options for a good treatment program. i've since spoken to the vet and he's going to start pred this week. and is going in for another glucose test (since it's been a few months since his last one).

also, i didn't even know about melatonin implants. thank you for that information. adrenal is definitely something i'm worried about especially as the younger boy is healthy but still 4.5 years old and the sickie being 5.5 years. i'm definitely going to look into that and discuss it with my vet.

thank you everyone for clearing some of this up/giving me some "food for thought". i've just gotten into ferts about 5 years ago and do a good amount of research/reading myself but have already learned a lot in just these past 24 hours.
