Subject: [ferrethealth] Anal Prolapse
To: "Ferret Health List" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

My boy Dozer, 4 years old, has been having some partial (not full) anal prolapse lately. It will come out somewhat, get a little bloody, then eventually recede back in, usually after I've rinsed his butt off under the faucet. He's eating and acting great, but this is obviously a problem that could get worse or lead to infection, as I am not always here to rinse him off when it happens. Will this eventually go away on its own, and if not, then what can I do to get it to stop happening?

[I recently saw on the FML a suggestion to use household sugar on a prolapse from a reputable source, and it ended up working! The other option is to discuss with your vet about having it repaired, which generally involves a simple purse-string suture. - Moderator (TD)].
