Hi,
I had a ferret on pred for IBD for several years. He ate z/d for a while without any problems and we were able to greatly reduce his steriod dose. He did poop more because the carbs just go right through their system. We also tried a few limited ingredient cat diets. We started with a duck and pea diet but then he got struvite crystals in his urine and my vet found a few other cases of this happening to ferrets on duck diets so we switched to a rabbit and pea diet which also worked well. We used the HPD d/d diets, but there are alot of limited ingredient diets on the market. You just need to pay close attention to the ingredient lists to make sure there are truely using a single protein and carb source. The downside to using limited ingredient diets is that you are very resricted in what treats you give. If they are exposed to any other protein or carb sources (from soup, chicken flavored treats, etc) it defeats the purpose of the diet in the first place.
