Dozer (just turned 4 years old) has been on the z/d kibble for a while,
but also getting some of the regular soup that I feed the others, which
includes TF kibble and TF turkey-lamb-venison. He's gained too much weight,
and I'm not sure if it's due to the fact that there is higher calories and
fat in the z/d, or if it's also due to being on prednisolone. He's been on
about 2/3 of a mg of pred daily, divided into 2 doses, since early Sept to
fight his IBD. He just had exploratory surgery yesterday, and the vet found
a dilated intestine, no apparent blockages or tumors of any sort, but sent a
sample for biopsy. Should get results Thursday. Dozer got to the point
where, despite the pred, his anus prolapsed due to apparent constriction
inside. His poops were also coming out very thin, then by the time of
surgery, he was almost completely blocked up.
All other organs seemed in good or excellent shape, although a very
small growth was found on the left adrenal. The vet was going to remove it,
but his body temp dropped too low by the end of the exploratory, so she had
to just close him up and get him warmer. He was on a heating pad during
surgery. I pick him up today, and from this point forward will be trying to
change his diet to no poultry at all. Good luck to me with that, as he can
be a picky eater. But with no obvious tumors or blockages at all, and IF
the biopsy comes back clean, then the only real conclusion left is food
allergy.
