The 'jill jab' hormone used is Proligestone. It only works for 5-6 months and may have to be repeated, whereas, Deslorelin implants are known to keep a jill out of estrus for 18 months.

Still, the best solution is to get her spayed as others have already recommended, by a ferret experienced vet.

As for the backyard breeder, if he's been breeding ferrets for that long, surely he would have used a vet from time to time and may be willing to recommend someone to you.
