I have a wonderful ferret knowledgeable vet. She is very skilled, I appreciate her greatly.
There are two other vets in her clinic that can do basic exams, vaccinations.
These two are very willing to learn surgical skills and often assist in surgeries.

When one of my ferrets passes, even though we almost always know why, I offer the body for a necropsy.
The two newer vets have often thanked me for this, saying this opportunity has helped them not only to refine surgical skills, but in future diagnostics as well.

I know some folks find this distasteful, and I do understand that.
For us, it's a way for the ferret to give something to help those that try so hard to help them in life.
