Many vets worry about Imuran and I am still sorry that one vet took our Sherman off it years ago. He was not having any negative effects from it and it was controlling him beautifully, but one of the vets was scared of it because of experiences with other species. Poor Sherm never had good control again, and once had a spell of weeks with about 7 medications needing to be used along with hydration after trying heavy whipping cream threw him into a huge downward spiral. It's been quite a while since we lost him, but I seem to recall that his lifelong intestinal problems finally set the stage for a malignancy, though I could well be wrong. (Sherman was our little guy who lost his tail and battled so many ticks as a stray that the shelter vet stopped counting while removing them. He used to move like a bear because he had lost his tail to gangrene so young -- a few weeks before he joined us as kit with his amputation site still causing him problems but us being used to amputations with ferrets . Douglas Adams, who was a dear friend of Steve's and loved getting videos of Sherman, was shaping a book character who was like a ferret-bear cross after Sherman when he himself suddenly passed away.)
