Thanks Danee... I found a vet about 1-1/2 hours from me who is experienced with ferrets and does have an endoscope small enough to do a colonoscopy on a ferret. He's talking to my vets and Dozer may get a colonoscopy on Tuesday. I am waiting to speak to that vet myself to weigh the potential risks, but at this point, with meds having not helped thus far (12 days), the only potential answer remaining would be looking for polyps or tumors in the colon and rectal area. None were noted during his exploratory surgery on Oct 31, but the vet was not able to get to the part of the colon in the pelvic area to search for abnormalities.
I do want to give the Azathioprine (Imuran) a full week to see if it works before going ahead with the colonoscopy, but thus far, after 3 days, it has not helped.
If anyone has had a colonoscopy done on a ferret, please let me know as much of your experience as you can share. You can email me directly and privately if you prefer.
