Subject: [ferrethealth] Pneumonia/Lymphoma & Viral Componenet
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
We have been unable to keep Emmy's bg in a normal/safe number after diazoxide has been added in addition to her prednisolone. Her last reading was a 51.
Saturday during her bg test a different vet on staff noticed her fat pads and felt them as well as inside her thighs and armpits. She had all lymph nodes enlarged on both sides. Xray showed enlarged thymus and area above heart that he said was pneumonia. Upon research I am finding that pneumonia is often a misdiagnosis given when lymphoma is causing the fluid. I have an appointment tomorrow with our old vet who treated our girl C.Wheats for lymphoma last year.
1st question, I have a feeling the vet tomorrow will take her off the clavamox as this is probably not pneumonia in her lungs but pleural effusion or something from the lymphoma? Does this sound right or does anyone indeed see both ever at the same time?
My ferret C.Wheats had the exact symptoms as Emmy 1 year ago at this time. C.Wheats was diagnosed Nov 2nd and we helped her transition to heaven Dec 17th. Both ferrets had an extreme weight gain (more then the average pred-belly), both ferrets had a squeaky sound when breathing from the visibly enlarged thymus upon xray. I am curious if this could indeed be a viral form? I understand lymphoma is comming but their symptoms seem to mimick eachother almost exactly.
