Subject: [ferrethealth] New Update On BB Hind End Weakness
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi All!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that BrotherBear is on the road to recovery (finally)!!

After MUCH extensive testing including constant rechecking of his blood glucose level, checking his lymphocites for abnormal cells, more x-rays, bone marrow aspiration and testing for lymphoma, among others, and a NEW vet we STILL could not find anything wrong with BrotherBear other than an enlarged spleen. After FOUR months of my little man not being able to walk and deteriorating daily, this new vet and I opted for removal of the spleen. One week to the day after BrotherBear had surgery, he started walking again. Slowly at first and with slips and slides here and there, but WALKING!! Tomorrow will be two weeks after surgery and he is almost running wild (again)!!!

The vet also did find and removed a one and a half to two inch hair ball situated at a point where his stomach and intestines meet which had brought about an ulcer and had caused him to literally quit eating all together. I believe he was almost to the point of giving up.

My former vet (and a VERY good vet I might add) did not want to remove the spleen and I am sure he was being cautious for which I am greatful, but he also did not recommend any further testing or suggestions to finding out what was causing this problem. I do not know if he was at a loss for what to do next or if he simply thought that nothing else could be done, BUT I WAS NOT SATISFIED!! I must also add that the NEW vet was also very cautious and would not remove the spleen UNTIL he did extensive testing and made absolutely sure that there was NOTHING else wrong with BrotherBear!!

Just wanted to post this for anyone who might face this problem in the future. Removal of the spleen and hairball was ALL that was needed for my ferret to be normal again. He has not felt this good in a VERY long time.

Would like to thank you all again for any posts and suggestions that were made for someone who was at a loss on what to do for my beloved pet!! YOU MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!!!

Thank you
Jovonna & BrotherBear Rainey
