Hi Holly,
If you are using Ferretone as an occasional treat, it is fine. However, if you are looking for a nutritional supplement Omega 3 is best, that is, fish oil.
Dog food of any kind is not recommended for ferrets because it lacks taurine, an essential amino acid found in cat and ferret food. Kitten food is better because its dietary components are closer to what ferrets require i.e., high fat, high protein, etc.
Have you tried mixing the EVO gradually in with their current kibble?
For more suggestions on diet, etc. I would recommend posting on to the FML. The FHL is more focused on health issues and while diet of course relates to health it is one of those borderline topics. For example, what might be best to feed post-surgically, or to deal with an insulinomic episode, or how to feed a ferret with megaesophagus, etc. would be appropriate topics for the FHL.
