I, too, have a ferret with a similar swelling and I suspect it is related to his teeth. I haven't been able to get him to the vet with the holidays, but hope the first part of the week. I will post what we find, in case it would be of help to you.

I just came back from work to find one of my girls, Omi, with her nose looking all weird like that. It seems swollen with like orange around it.....
