Subject: [ferrethealth] Metronidazole Benzoate
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
I looked through the archives and found a few mentions of Metronidazole
Benzoate, but didn't find any real discussions on using it.
Metronidazole Benzoate is a salt of Metronidazole which has the same effect
as metronidazole, BUT (and it's a big but) it is TASTELESS!
It's been around for a long time, but is a little more expensive, and much
more difficult to find.
My question is why it isn't more commonly used.
We typically use Metro in combination with Amoxi for ferrets with
stomach/ulcer issues. It seems wrong to use a medicine which tastes so
nasty that it stresses the ferrets further, if there's another option.
So, it seems like I must be missing something, but we've been using it for
some time with good results.
BTW, I was able to order it from MWI just last week, so it is available.
So, anyone have experience with it? Any reason not to use it?
Thanks,
Kevin
