Subject: [ferrethealth] Bad/incorrect prescription??

I recently refilled my ferrets prescription for Pediapred (6.75MG/5ML). I got it from the same pharmacy that I've always gotten it from. Two of my ferrets that were on higher doses (.3 ML 3X day) began crashing. I was giving them extra medicine and Ensure with turkey baby food figuring they had built up a resistance. This morning they both crashed again. I was able to save Sox, but not Randy my Mckid, probably because he had a heart condition as well.
So my question is, since the prescription was the only thing that changed in their lives, how would or where would I go to have it tested to see if A] it was the correct concentration as shown on the label, and B] was actually Pediapred and not something else??

Prednisolone does have an expiry date and when it expires it is done, unlike some other medications. We had a ferret die in our region a couple of years ago when it was given prednisolone that was close to expiry.
Did you call the pharmacy? If not, you could ask who filled the prescription. And ask what the expiry date is.
I would suggest calling the closest tertiary care hospital and ask them whether they have a drug analysis lab or where the closest one would be.- Moderator(TD)].
