My baby girl 12 weeks old keeps chewing on her bedding I bought her toys but she chews on everyyhing. I have used bitter apple on last a few minutes. Please help!!!
[Some ferrets have a propensity for chewing bedding. This is challenging to deal with. Hopefully she has a predilection for a particular fabric. For example, I had a ferret who had a penchant for all things rayon, another who only chewed cotton.
Soooo remove all the bedding she's chewed on and see if there is any commonality, and try other types of bedding.
As for other things, ferrets are known to chew all kinds of things they shouldn't, which can potentially cause an obstruction. You need to ferret proof your home. Bitter apple only slows them down, it does not stop the chewing and can cause mouth ulcers.
In the interim watch for signs of potential obstruction, which is an emergency and requires immediate veterinary surgical intervention. Signs would be threadlike stools, or no stool, and/or vomiting. Get some FerretLax or hairball remedy for cats and give her a 1/2" ribbon daily if you think she hasn't passed what she has already chewed. Then carefully examine her stool for remnants. Petroleum Jelly can also be used but it is not very palatable and FerretLax is more easily accepted because it is flavoured.
