I would definitely do the Deslorelin implant if you can find a vet who has them. I have had really good success with these, even if it's with other ferrets who have had advanced adrenal disease. Even if such a ferret may only have a few months to live, the Deslorelin implant can make those few months so much better.

See if he will eat some salmon oil mixed in with his food, or even on its own as a treat. That may help. Is the children's antihistamine that you're using the equivalent of Benadryl? If so, you might ask the vet about trying a higher dose.

However, if you are not treating the source of the itching (i.e. using the Deslorelin implant, or Lupron Depot shots), then you are just treating the symptom, and it will continue to some degree no matter what you do. Melatonin is good and might help, but with advanced adrenal, it's probably not nearly enough. The Deslorelin is by far your best chance of helping, in my opinion.
