I took a foster ferret in with a bulging eye. He was 6 when I got him. My vet suspected a tumor but I did take him to an ophthalmologist who confirmed that there was something behind his eye pushing it out. What she couldn't confirm without a biopsy was if it was cancer. Since it did not seem to slow him down we did try some antibiotic drops and artificial tears to keep his eye from getting dry. The antibiotics of coarse did not work and about 3 months later when the eye was bulging enough to risk rupture my vet took his eye out, along with a tumor on his leg. Biopsy confirmed lymphoma. Boscoe did great for almost a year. We lost him just one week shy of a year of his eye removal. He was 71/2 when he passed. Make sure they keep using the artificial tears to keep his eye moist. I think I would seek a second opinion as I too have never heard of removing the old implants.
