I don't recall whether you mentioned if Hog was MF or RCF, but given the date, the distributor for the Northwest was still carrying RCF ferrets. He switched to MF around July of 2010. If he is RCF, then mycoplasmosis is a real possibility.

Unfortunately, while some antibiotics give temporary relief, we haven't found anything curative. Working with our vets, we've tried a number of different regimes. We offer antibiotics as well as bronciodilators to help symptomatically.

As for size and body shape, he's a bit on the big-head side but not completely out of the range that I've seen. As a generalization, RCF ferrets have much broader heads than MF, sometimes looking like the head of an intact male.
