Sometimes whatever is causing the enlarged spleen can be tackled by antibiotics, especially using one of the full scale routines for Helicobacter such as Biaxin and Amoxi for enough weeks.
If the cause of enlargement is a malignancy then the treating vet will know which approach is best for the individual.
See recent posts and older posts for info on the surgery itself. Just go to the FHL Archives which can be linked to from the FHL homepage in multiple spots, or use the second addy in my sig lines and lat first look up posts containing
spleen or splenic
in their content/message bodies leaving the other two boxes empty
then decide if you want to narrow the search further by clicking open interesting looking posts.
