Subject: [ferrethealth] Lupron, Deslorelin, Suprelorin
To: "ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I am completely confused at the moment and need an explanation please.

Are there currently ANY time release implants of the subject matter available for sale in the US?

My vet's office manager apparently ran into trouble getting the Suprelorin implants from Australia, so I want to find something else that's available locally until the Suprelorin implants are available here. Yes, I know Rose at Peptech (?) is very helpful, it's the manager I'm sure. She told me 6 months ago it would be 4-6 weeks and then went out on maternity leave. I can't start the process all over again.

My understanding is that Lupron was an injection but was replaced by Deslorelin implants and now Suprelorin is the way to go. What is the difference and where can I get something quickly?

Is the 4.7 mg Deslorelin implant approved in the US and from whom?

Thanks,
Leslie

[Deslorelin is the active ingredient in the Suprelorin implant. The names are interchangeable. It is essentially the same thing. Suprelorin/Deslorelin implants are projected to become available in the U.S. in the near future. Virbac will likely be the supplier. However, at the moment the source is still Peptech in Australia. Any other formulations of Deslorelin, i.e., gel, etc. should not be used in ferrets PERIOD!

Lupron Depot injections are still widely available and can be used. Deslorelin has not replaced Lupron - it is an alternative to Lupron.

If you are waiting for the Deslorelin implants to become available in the U.S. and do not wish to have them ordered from Australia, then by all means use the Lupron Depot.

As for differences - enter either term in the Search field and you will get numerous posts; or do a Google search. - Moderator (TD)].
