Subject: [ferrethealth] Vanadyl Sulfate for Insulinoma

I didn't find this anywhere in the archives.
I have ordered something called Vanoxyl, which is a compound called
vanadyl sulfate, for my one ferret who has insulinoma (and lymphoma) and
has been hanging onto life by a thread for months now. I had him on
pred, but it was making him sicker with GI upset/possible ulcer, so I
stopped it.
Anyways, a ferret shelter told me about this supplement and said they
were having great and immediate success with this helping regulate blood
sugar for ferrets with insulinoma. There is an online holistic vet site
that says to give 1/4 capsule (5mg) daily mixed in food. There's
another formulation called Diabenil, which contains vanadyl sulfate and
other ingredients supposedly to help support blood sugar levels that
they told me they thought was better, but it was much more expensive.
I am hoping to get the Vanoxyl in early next week. I am anxious because
my ferret has had some terrible low blood sugar episodes. If anyone is
interested, I can report back with the results, or if you want the name
of the online vet. I didn't know if I could post links like that here.
