Just a bit more information

George looked like he wasn't feeling well this included sleeping more, hind end weakness, and ataxia.  I increased his pred to 0.8 ml (1mg/1ml solution) twice a day from the 0.5 mls he was on.  He got two does of these increased doses yesterday and on this morning at 6:30 am.

On the way to the vet I was looking at a new ferret, digging at the bedding in his carrier like there was no tomorrow (hadn't seen this kind of activity out of him in weeks).  I wondered if I should hold off on the vet and save some $$$ but I decided to continue, I didn't want to not go and have him take a turn for the worse plus I wanted to discuss the increased pred dose.

At the vet we found his weight was the same as the last two visits dating back to Nov 2011 (okay half an ounce heavier).  He was alert, active, curious.  His glucose was 77.

We are going to maintain the 0.8 cc of Pred with food and pepcid.  We will hold off on Diazoxide for now.  If he has periods of not looking well I'll see if we can swing a three times a day dosage ((0.8 + 0.8)/3) = 0.55 cc per dose.  The problem is there are many days when no one is around when the middle dose would be due.  We'll have to work that out somehow.

George didn't have his toes curled like he did a couple days ago (a little but that was on the slippery counter at the vets (I was right next to him so he would not fall)

His fur is a little course but not thining (maybe a little on his belly), so we have to keep an eye out for adrenal disease but with 7 year old ferrets you need to watch for it any way.

Bottom line the vet thought he looked really good, and to keep up on the increased pred.  George looks really good now I just hope we can maintain this state for as long as possible.

Thank you for all the advice which was sent.

Mike
